Understanding the Foundation of the Soul: Our Soul Elements

If someone asked you what the Soul is, how would you answer?

Throughout history, countless philosophies, religions, and spiritual traditions have attempted to explain the nature of the Soul. Some describe it as spirit. Others describe it as consciousness, essence, or divine presence.

At Know Thy Soul, we define the Soul as:

A Pure Thought

At the center of this Pure Thought exists a nucleus that holds together every aspect of our being.

The Nucleus of the Soul

#0 Absolute Truth

At the very core of the Soul exists Absolute Truth.

Absolute Truth acts as the unifying principle of the Soul. It is the foundation upon which every other Soul Element depends. It remains unchanged regardless of circumstances, opinions, beliefs, or experiences.

Absolute Truth is not something we create.

It is something we discover.

Like the nucleus of an atom, Absolute Truth holds the structure of the Soul together.

Surrounding this nucleus are the Eight Core Soul Elements.

The First Layer: Universal Soul Elements

The first six Soul Elements are universal generators that arise from the fabric of existence itself.

#1 Honesty Generates Acceptance

Honesty allows us to perceive reality without distortion.

When we are honest with ourselves, we no longer waste energy resisting what is.

Our Soul must honestly accept other elements that it picks up in its journey through the Universe.

From honesty comes acceptance.

Acceptance is not surrender.

Acceptance is the willingness to see reality clearly so that growth can occur.

#2 Patience Generates Tolerance

Patience teaches us to trust the natural unfolding of life.

Growth rarely happens instantly.

Patience creates space for understanding, learning, and development.

From patience comes tolerance.

Tolerance allows us to coexist peacefully with perspectives, experiences, and journeys that may differ from our own. Patience allows our Soul to tolerate other elements that must be added.

#3 Awareness Generates Ethics and Consideration

Awareness helps us recognize the consequences of our thoughts, words, and actions.

As awareness expands, so does our understanding of our relationship with others.

From awareness emerge divine ethics and consideration.

We begin to recognize that our choices affect the greater whole.

We are able to see ourselves and our actions and change them based on the amount of awareness we have.

#4 Generosity Generates Altruism

Generosity is the willingness to give freely.

As generosity deepens, it evolves into altruism.

Altruism is the unselfish regard or devotion to the well-being of others without expectation of reward, recognition, or personal gain.

It is one of the highest expressions of the Soul’s desire to contribute to the well-being of others.

#5 Consciousness Generates Life

Consciousness is often misunderstood.

At Know Thy Soul, Consciousness is not merely the state of being conscious.

Consciousness is the life-generating force itself.

It is the energy that animates living beings and allows existence to express itself through life.

Without Consciousness, there is no life.

Consciousness generates the living experience.

#6 Humbleness Generates Humility

Humbleness reminds us that growth is endless.

There is always more to learn.

There is always a larger perspective.

From humbleness emerges humility.

Humility allows us to remain teachable while respecting the value and place of every living being within existence.

Human Soul Elements

The final two Soul Elements are unique to the human Soul.

#7 Forgiveness Generates Sympathy

Forgiveness allows us to release resentment, judgment, and emotional burdens.

As forgiveness develops, it creates sympathy.

Sympathy is the ability to understand the struggles and experiences of ourselves and others.

Forgiveness softens the heart and opens the door to greater understanding.

#8 Compassion Generates Empathy

Compassion is the sincere desire to alleviate suffering and support growth.

From compassion emerges empathy.

Empathy is the ability to genuinely feel and connect with the experiences of another being.

Compassion transforms understanding into connection.

It allows us to experience the joys and sorrows of others as if they were our own.

The Human Soul and Sentient Life

According to the Know Thy Soul philosophy, all sentient beings possess the universal Soul Elements.

However, the human Soul contains the additional capacities of Forgiveness and Compassion, which generate Sympathy and Empathy.

These qualities allow humans to navigate unique forms of emotional understanding and interpersonal growth.

It is possible that higher forms of sentient life possess additional Soul Elements beyond those currently recognized by humanity.

As our understanding evolves, our awareness of the greater structure of existence may continue to expand.

The Greater Universe

The Know Thy Soul philosophy teaches that existence contains levels of intelligence and participation beyond what most people recognize.

Among these are:

The Sound Civilization

The sentient beings responsible for creating and maintaining the universal grid that protects and stabilizes our Universe.

The Light Civilization

The sentient beings responsible for the creation and maintenance of stars and suns throughout the Universe.

The Free Will Civilization

Each Soul receives a small portion of Free Will as a guide throughout its journey.

You might think of this as a personal inner navigation system, an internal compass (intuition) continually guiding you toward growth, understanding, and alignment with your Soul. Your Free Will will never steer you wrong!

We just have to listen with honesty, patience, awareness, and humbleness.

Why the Eight Core Soul Elements Matter

The purpose of self-discovery is not to become someone else.

It is to remember who you already are.

The Eight Core Soul Elements provide a framework for understanding the qualities that naturally emerge as we align more closely with the Soul.

When we strengthen Honesty, Patience, Awareness, Generosity, Consciousness, Humbleness, Forgiveness, and Compassion, we begin expressing the deeper truth that has always existed within us.

Final Reflection

Every person is on a journey of self-discovery.

The Soul does not ask us to become perfect.

The Soul asks us to remember.

Remember the truth.

Remember the qualities that already exist within us.

Remember the deeper nature behind the roles, labels, and identities we accumulate throughout life.

The journey of Knowing Thy Soul begins with a simple realization:

The answers we seek are often already within us.
